Martijn van Gruijthuijsen, Noord-Brabant Province

Martijn van Gruijthuijsen has been a vice governor for the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant since 2019. He is the vice governor for Economic Affairs, Finance, and Knowledge and Talent Development. In this position, he aims to reinforce Brabant’s future growth potential by investing in a properly functioning labour market and a leading knowledge-based economy with its partners. Van Gruijthuijsen is also committed to advancing sustainable energy innovation, including supporting the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) such as molten salt reactors. The province of Noord-Brabant takes a clear pioneering role by connecting this innovative nuclear technology with its strong high-tech sector, contributing to a reliable and low-carbon energy system for the future. Van Gruijthuijsen spent eight years as a member of the provincial council of Noord-Brabant for the VVD where one of his focal points was the economy. He has also held a variety of positions at Tilburg University where he contributed to that institution’s collaboration with societal organisations, the business community and first-time entrepreneurs. Van Gruijthuijsen has been a member of the European Committee of the Regions since September 2020.

Mr. Martijn van Gruijthuijsen will be speaking about Localization of SMR Development during Session II: Global SMR Market & Policy Development, on 14 January.
