About NExSMR 2026

Format: In-person conference with keynote sessions, panel discussions, and networking opportunities

The NExSMR conference brings together stakeholders from policy, industry, finance, and technology to focus on practical steps needed to realize the deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). NExSMR 2026 is not solely about opportunities, it’s about action: identifying the next steps, determining who needs to take them, and exploring how these steps can be implemented effectively.

Developing SMRs presents complex challenges that span regulatory frameworks, financing, technology development, and industrial capacity. Collaboration across these sectors is essential to move from concepts to concrete deployment. NExSMR provides a platform for constructive dialogue, knowledge exchange, and partnership-building, helping stakeholders turn ideas into actionable plans.

Date: 14-16 January 2026

Location: World Forum, The Hague

Organized By

Foundation for Energy Transition and Nuclear Energy (SEK)

SEK is a leading foundation dedicated to advancing nuclear energy as a key component of the energy transition. Through research, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement, SEK works to accelerate the adoption of innovative nuclear technologies, including Small Modular Reactors, ensuring sustainable and reliable energy solutions for the future.

Organized By

Netherlands Nuclear Society (NNS)

The Netherlands Nuclear Society (NNS) is the professional organization for nuclear experts and stakeholders in the Netherlands. The society aims to promote interest in nuclear technology and encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience among professionals working in this field.

NNS brings together scientists, engineers, and technical specialists from across the Dutch nuclear sector. Its community spans a wide range of domains — from government and research institutions to the medical field and the energy sector — fostering dialogue and collaboration across disciplines.

Although the NNS operates as a foundation (Stichting NNS) and therefore does not have formal members, it maintains a network of supporters and affiliates (“begunstigers”) who are actively engaged in its activities.

Governance and Collaboration

The NNS shares its chairmanship with the Nuclear Technology Division of KIVI (the Royal Netherlands Society of Engineers), strengthening the link between the professional engineering community and the nuclear field in the Netherlands.

International Engagement

The NNS is an active member of the European Nuclear Society (ENS), providing its community with access to a wide European network of nuclear professionals and organizations. Through this partnership, NNS contributes to international conferences, workshops, and working groups that advance the safe and sustainable use of nuclear technology.

The society’s youth division, the Dutch Young Generation (DYG), plays an important role in connecting early-career professionals to the broader European Young Generation Network within the ENS. This ensures that the next generation of nuclear experts in the Netherlands is well connected, informed, and ready to contribute to the future of nuclear energy — including the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
