Maria van der Hoeven is a prominent Dutch politician and energy expert with decades of experience at the intersection of policy, energy, and education. From 2011 to 2015, she served as Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), where she led global energy dialogue and strengthened the agency’s focus on sustainability and innovation.
Prior to her role at the IEA, she held several ministerial positions in the Dutch government, including Minister of Economic Affairs (2007–2010) and Minister of Education, Culture and Science (2002–2007). Van der Hoeven is widely respected for her deep insights into energy policy and geopolitics, and she remains active as an advisor, board member, and international speaker.
