Andreas Tirez holds a master in electrical engineering and in economics, both from KU Leuven (Belgium). He joined the CREG, the Belgian federal energy regulator, in 2006, at the department responsible for the functioning of the electricity and gas wholesale markets. In 2013 he became director of the same department, until 2023. In 2024, Andreas Tirez joined Febeliec, the federation of Belgian industrial energy consumers, as an energy expert. His focus is on wholesale market design and cost-efficiency of the energy system. He is a member of the ACER expert groups on peak shaving products and on flexibility needs in EU.
